Reducing the appearance of wrinkles and creases on the face can be accomplished in several different ways. The technique used depends on the skin type, location of the wrinkles and the reason why the wrinkle lines have formed. Mature adults often suffer from a loss of collagen production, as well as thinning skin.

One of the more revolutionary means of smoothing out wrinkles and folds involves using the patient’s own blood. Known as platelet-rich plasma injection, or PRP, this type of procedure plumps the tissues by stimulating growth of new cellular material beneath the dermal layers. Many people have come to know this procedure as a Vampire Facelift®, or a PRP facial.

How the PRP Facial Works to Reduce Wrinkles

A small amount of blood is first drawn from the client and spun in a centrifuge. This separates the red cells, platelets and plasma. The platelets are mixed with a smaller amount of plasma to form the PRP. The PRP is then applied to the facial skin at strategic locations.

After a while, the platelets and plasma begin to attract nutrients. The PRP mimics the client’s own subdermal tissue. The body responds by building up new supportive tissue, and collagen production also increases.

What are the Benefits?

A PRP facial isn’t an invasive procedure because no surgery or skin stretching is involved. The benefits of this type of skin-smoothing procedure are many and include a non-surgical alternative to correct facial skin wrinkling, folding and creasing. PRP treatment is also a natural approach because it uses the client’s own blood. Dermal fillers can also be used in conjunction with the PRP facial to further encourage the lifting effect.

There is no downtime for the client because the procedure is performed in-house with no sedation or anesthetics. Our clients can resume their normal activities immediately.

What to Expect

The entire procedure usually takes only about an hour. The blood drawing and spinning is done on location, with no delay between mixing the PRP and applying it to the skin.

The effect of building up new tissue is not immediate, but many of our clients notice a definite improvement in their appearance within weeks. A secondary treatment is not necessary, so only a single visit to the clinic is required. In most cases, the results last for up to six months or more.
